A guide to moving supplies

Moving your supplies from one place to another requires careful packing and storage strategies. There are several online sites that provide valuable tips for packing and moving your stuff, making it an easier and less frustrating job.

Packing the stuff is a careful job. One must make sure that the lighter items are packed in large boxes while the heavier items are put in smaller boxes. Packing one room’s entire stuff at one time is the best strategy. This helps in segregating each room’s stuff from the others’. Electronic items like computer and television should be packed in strong boxes that can lift such weights. One should remove all the wires and cables, and pack them carefully. Each electronic item must be checked for a proper packaging, they should not move in the boxes. If needed, the items should be placed on thick padded material, such as a blanket to enable a safer moving option. Filling the empty spaces in these boxes with paper and other such stuff ensures that the objects packed are protected from breakage during movement.

Delicate and fragile items like glassware and chinaware should be carefully wrapped to avoid friction between them. These should be packed in a separate box which is boldly marked as fragile. No other item should be packed in that box. Antiques and other valuables should be carefully packed. Items which have loose objects such as a pendulum clock need to be packed carefully. The loose item should be secured packed with the main item to avoid breakage. Combustible items such as gas tanks should be avoided. Its better that all items which contain oil or other flammable liquid must be emptied before packing.

One should always ensure that boxes are properly taped. A seemingly stable box also needs to be taped properly. Also, it is important to label each item carefully – according to items, weight, type and rooms. Properly labeled items make it easier for you to unpack the supplies accordingly and with minimum fuss. It would also help your moving company to take care of the stuff.

Unless the stuff is packed by your moving company, the company cannot be held responsible for any breakage that happens on the way. A good moving company will always provide their customers a guidebook that explains the basics for moving supplies and explains the customers’ own responsibilities. Also, it is important to check the reputation of the moving company before engaging one. It is better to be safe than to feel sorry in the end
